Priyadarshan Biography

King of Comedy Priyadarshan is a Writer-Director of Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies. He is known for his remarkable movies like 'Hera Pheri' and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'. He received a Padma Shri award in 2012 for his contribution towards Art.

Soman Priyadarshan Nair started his career from Malayalam movies in 1984. He gave several hits there. He then tried his hands in Hindi movies. His First Hindi movie was 'Muskurahat' in 1992 which failed to do well. Then in 1993, he made 'Gardish'. After that he remained busy with his south projects. In 1997, he came back with 'Virasat' starring Anil Kapoor and Tabu. The film brought him his first Hindi film success. After that he directed various movies like 'Saat Rang Ke Sapne', 'Doli Saja Ke Rakhna' etc. But it was his 2000 movie 'Hera Pheri' which got him much acclamation in Hindi Film Industry. The hilarious comedy went on to become a cult in Hindi Cinema. He then delivered various super hit movies like 'Hungama' (2003), 'Hulchul' (2004), 'Garam Masala' (2005), 'Malamaal Weekly' (2006), 'Dhol' (2007) and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' (2007). He also gave some moderately successful movies like 'Chup Chup Ke', 'Bhagam Bhag', 'De Dana Dan', 'Mere Baap Pehle Aap', etc. Most of his Hindi movies were a remake, either of his own craft or of other regional movies. Other than comedy, Priyadarshan has also tried different genres like 'Kyon Ki', 'Aakrosh', 'Billu Barber', 'Bumm Bumm Bole', etc. He had lately directed 'Kamaal dhamaal Malamaal'.

He will next be seen directing 'Rangrezz' starring Jackky Bhagnani and Rajpal Yadav. The film will release in March, 2013.
