The queen of Bollywood , wholesome and pretty Rani Mukherjee is a very distinctive with her husky voice. Earlier, people did not love her husky tone but later people found it unique and attractive. A very talented and hard working actress carries a look of simple and sweet girl next door. Cute and bubbly Rani is a winner of 3 Filmfare awards for the best supporting actress, 2 Filmfare critics awards for the best performance and 2 Filmfare awards for the best actress. Other than Nutan, Rani is the a seven time Filmfare award winner.

The girl with beautiful eyes, Rani was born on 21st March 1978 in Mumbai into a Bengali family which has connections to the Bollywood for a long time. Her father, Ram Mukherjee is a co-founder if Filmalaya studios and also a director and her mother Krishna is a singer. Her brother is a producer and director as well. Famous actors Kajol, Tanisha Mukherjee and Mohnish Behl are Rani's cousins. And writer Ayan Mukherjee is Rani's cousin as well. The beautiful actress studied in the 'Maneckji Cooper High School in Mumbai and later enrolled herself in Mithibai College in Mumbai.

Rani made her debut in acting by making a small appearance in her father's Bengali film 'Biyer Phool' in 1992. She did not want to become an actress. After a long discussion with her father and on the insistence of her mother she accepted the offer of a lead role in the film 'Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat' in 1997. The film could not do well at the box office. Rani came into the limelight with the film 'Ghulam' with Aamir Khan. After the success of a song 'Aati kya Khandala' from this film, Rani was recognized as Khandala girl. But she got a real taste of success through Karan Johar's love triangle 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' with Shah Rukh Khan and her cousin Kajol. The movie was a blockbuster and Rani became a star after this film. Later, Rani appeared in many films which performed average at the box office. Her next release was 'Hey! Ram' with Kamal Haasan which was a critically acclaimed movie . This movie has got a nomination at the Oscars. Her next was 'Badal' with Bobby Deol, and it performed well at the box office and her performance in the film 'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega' was appreciated by the critics and she was nominated for the Filmfare's award for the Best actress in a supporting role.

Later she appeared in 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke' with Salman Khan and Preity Zinta. Her next was 'Saathiya' with Vivek Oberoi which was a hit. People loved to see her romancing with Vivek Oberoi on screen. Rani's performance in her next film 'Chalte Chalte' with Shah Rukh Khan was well appreciated. In the year 2004, all the three films 'Yuva','Hum Tum' and 'Veer-Zaara' in which Rani did a good performance, did well at the box office.

In the year 2005, Rani did some high profile films like 'Black','Bunty Aur Babli','Paheli' etc. All the films were a hit. And her performance in the film 'Black' was well appreciated. She got numerous awards for her excellent performance in that film.

Later she acted in 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', 'Baabul','Saawariya' and 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag'. Out of these, just 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' did well. Her next was 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic' did not do well at the box office. In the year 2009, she was seen in 'Dil Bole Hadippa!'.

The gorgeous actress was recently seen in the films like 'No One Killed Jessica','Aiyyaa' and 'Talaash'. All the films did well at the box office and Rani's performance got lots of accolades from the critics as well as audiences.

The Bengali beauty will be seen next in the films like 'Bombay Talkies','Chennai Express' will be doing a special appearance in the film 'Koochie Koochie Hota Hain'.
