Reena Roy Biography

The yesteryears' leading actress Reena Roy dominated the world of Hindi cinema from 1972-1985. She was born on January 7, 1957. The actress came from a varied family background. Reena was born to Muslim father and Hindu mother. She is having four siblings and she is the third one. Her parents got divorced afterwards. Reena had to begin her career at a very young age to lend a support to her siblings and mother.

Reena Roy kickstarted her career with the movie 'Nai Duniya Naye Log' in 1973 by B. R. Ishara. This was the film in which the actor Danny Denzongpa debuted. But, the film had to see temporary shutdown. The beauty had to do low budget movies with feeble scripts for some years. The film 'Jaise Ko Taisa' (1973) changed her fortune to an extent. Her rain dance with Jeetendra in this film, 'Ab Ke Sawan' won several thumbs ups. After two years, Reena Roy appeared in the film 'Kalicharan' in the year 1975.

The actress was seen in 'Zaroorat' (1972). The film turned to be a big hit at the box-office and it was starring newbie Vijay Arora. In the period of 1972-1975, the classic beauty acted in plenty of hit movies like 'Rani Aur Lalpari',(1975), 'Jangal Mein Mangal', 'Umar Qaid' and 'Zakhmee'. After achieving success in the movies 'Zakhmee' and 'Kalicharan', Reena got into another super hit flick 'Nagin' in which she essayed the role of a lethal snake, who takes the revenge of her lover's death. The brilliant actress bagged her very first Filmfare nomination for the category of Best Actress. This movie made Reena climb the ladder of success in the Hindi film industry. With Raj Kumar Kohli, Reena gave certain hit films like 'Muqabla' (1979), 'Jaani Dushman' (1979) and 'Raaj Tilak' (1984).

The film 'Kalicharan' has lion's share in bringing together Reena Roy and Shatrughan Sinha. Both of them became a hit pair and together they delivered around nine super hits. At that time, the audience were fond of their onscreen sizzling chemistry. The films of Reena Roy and Jeetendra also saw golden days at the box-office. Some of them include 'Pyaasa Sawan' (1981), 'Badalte Rishte' (1978). Reena Roy and Jeetendra were owners of around twelve super hits out of their total seventeen movies. They even produced three movies together, such as 'Aasha' (1980), 'Apnapan' (1977) and 'Arpan' (1983). Reena got immense popularity from her famous dance number 'Sheesha Ho Ya Dil Ho'. The multifaceted heroine displayed her negative side in the movie 'Apnapan'. For this role, she received Filmfare award for Best Actress category. Reena Roy was a tough competitor for legendary actresses Asha Parekh and Nutan.

Reena made audience crazy with her unbeatable charm and enormous acting talent. The dazzling beauty was seen in another hits like 'Madhosh' (1974), 'Goonj' (1974), 'Vardaan' (1975), 'Sangram' (1976), 'Gumrah' (1976), 'Barood' (1976), 'Udhar Ka Sindur' (1976), 'Sat Sri Akal' (1977), 'Paapi' (1977), 'Prem Tapasya' (1983), 'Faqeer Badshah' (1987), 'Mangal Dada' (1986), 'Kalyug Ke Avtaar' (1995), 'Smuggler' (1996), 'Gair' (1999), 'Aadmi Khilona Hai' (1993), 'Ek Chitthi Pyar Bhari' (1985), 'Andhaa Kaanoon' (1983), 'Do Waqt Ki Roti' (1988), 'Rocky' (1981) and last she was seen in 'Refugee' (2000).

For a short period, Reena Roy was a part of the small screen too. She acted in television serial 'Eena Meena Deeka'. Reena's sister Barkha Roy was the producer of this serial. In the year 2004, both the sisters together started an acting school. Reportedly, Reena Roy is also known for performing campaigning for the Indian National Congress.
