Rohini
She was born as Rohini Oak on Apr 11, 1955 in Delhi. After ending her schooling from Renuka Swaroop Memorial Girls High School, Pune in 1971 Rohini inscribed her name in National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. Famous Indian theater director Ebrahim Alkazi was there teacher.

The actress had Best all round student honour and Best Actress award in this institute. She is classically coached by Professor Surendra Wadgaonkar in Kathakali and Bharatnatyam.

Rohini married Jayadev Hattangadi who was her classmate in National School of Drama. And the mates has a boy named Aseem Hattangadi. Rohini lost her husband Jayadev on 4 Dec 2008.

Career in Theater
Along with husband Jayadev, Rohini began her own Marathi theater group named Awishkar. For her performance in a maneuver called Changuna, she received the Best Actress Award during the Maharashtra State Drama Festival. She was very lucky to be the first woman in Asia who acted in Japanese Kabuki maneuver and Karnataka's Yakshagana.

She gave an outstanding performance by doing a solo-act play called Aparajita written by Nitin Sen. Jayadev Hattangadi wrote five plays she acted in all the five plays which also include a Greek play named Medea by Euripides. For her devotion to Indian theater she got Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Some of her most popular plays include Mitra Chi Gosht by Vijay Tendulkar, Hori, Kohra and more. The duo besides has a research and education center called Kalashray in Mumbai.

Rohini & Television
In Marathi serial Char divas sasuche she played the lead role and was besides seen in respective Hindi soap operas like Mahayagya, Thoda hai thoda ki Zaroorat hai, Teacher etc.. She played an aged character of Moti Ba in Zee Tv's Gharaki laxmi bettiyann. And she is currently seen in Vahinisaheb aired on Zee Marathi.

Movies by Rohini
In 1978 she made her movie debut with Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan by Saeed Akhtar Mirza. Then she acted in movies like Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai (1980) and Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil starring Chakra (1981). In 1992 the actress came in to the limelight internationally with her performance in Gandhi (1982) and she had the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for this film.

In 1984 besides she succeeded Film fare Best Supporting Actress Award for Mahesh Bhatt's Arth. And afterwards succeeded National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Party (1984) by Govind Nihalani. For the first time Rohini played an aging character of a housewife in Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! and Saaransh. The actress played memorable comic parts in films like Chaalbaaz and Ladaai.

In Pankaj Parashar's Jalwa (1987) she was seen as Sribaby. She has worked with some of the most well known directors of 80s and 90s. It includes cinemas like Govind Nihalani in Aghaat (1985), with Muzaffar Ali in Anjuman (1986) and with Girish Kasaravalli in Mane and Ek Ghar, with Rajkumar Santoshi in Damini (1993) and Ghatak (1996).

The actress again managed to get a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her acting in Amitabh Bachchan's Agneepath. In hit movie Pukar (2000) she gave a comic performance. Rohini played actor Sanjay Dutt's mother in Munnabhai MBBS (2003) and played the same character in its Tamil remake named Vasool Raja MBBS.
