Subhash Ghai Biography

Veteran director Subhash Ghai has given an enormous contribution to the Hindi film industry. He is famous for doing cameos in every film he directs. The talented director has launched his own production house Mukta Arts named after his wife Mukta Ghai (Rehana Farooqui). The couple has two daughters where his elder daughter Meghna looks after the Whistling Woods International Institute for Films , Media, Animation and Media Arts. This institute is Subhash Ghai's dream project. He was born on 24th January 1945 in Nagpur. Ghai is a director, screenwriter and a producer too. He is also known as the showman of Hindi films. He originates from a Punjabi Khukhrain family. His father was a dentist who used to practice in Delhi. He did his schooling from Delhi and went to Rohtak, Haryana for pursuing further studies. He took a degree in commerce. Then he shifted to Pune to join FTII (The Film and Television Institute of India) . He took a diploma from FTII and joined the Indian film industry.

He made his debut in the Hindi films by doing small roles in the films like 'Taqdeer' in 1967 and Aradhana in 1971. He did a lead role in the film 'Umang' in 1970 which was not successful at the box office. He made his directorial debut with the film 'Kalicharan' in 1976 which was a huge hit. Later he went on directing many successful movies like 'Vishwanath' , 'Karz', 'Hero', 'Meri Jung','Karma', 'Ram Lakhan', 'Saudagar','Khalnayak','Trimurti', 'Pardes','Taal' ,'Yaadein', 'Kisna' , and 'Yuvraaj' etc. All these films were successful at the box office. In the year 1982, he launched Mukta Arts Private Limited which became a public company in 2000. Ghai is the chairman and managing director of Mukta Arts.

Under his production house, he has produced many films like 'Joggers Park' , 'Aitraaz','Iqbal','36 China Town', 'Shaadi Se Pehle','Apna Sapna Money Money' and 'Good Boy Bad Boy'. The talented director has won many awards and nominations for his movies like 'Iqbal', 'Taal', 'Pardes', 'Khalnayak', 'Saudagar' and 'Ram Lakhan'.

Ghai's next release will be 'Kaanchi' with a newbie Mishti , Kartik Aaryan, Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor.
