Action Jackson Review

By Friday Release Team - Dec 5, 2014 12:10 PM

Rating: 1.5/5

One-line Review: High on Action, Low on Concept

Positive Points: Stylish action sequences, Manasvi Mamgai's captivating performance

Negative Points: Stretched Screenplay, Forced humour, Eerie background score

Plot: Vishy (Ajay Devgn) is a "Gaali Ka Gunda" with a golden heart. He has a stalker Khushi (Sonakshi Sinha), who believes that seeing him naked makes her lucky. After series of sequences, they both fall in love with each other and she convinces him to live an honest life. But then all of a sudden, goons from Bangkok and local policemen are after him which makes him confused as he has not done anything as such big in the crime world. However, Vishy's doubt is soon cleared when he sees his look-alike Jay a.k.a. AJ (Ajay Devgn) battling with the goons.

Who is AJ? What is his real identity? Why the international don Xavier (Anandaraj) and his hit men are behind him? Answers of all these questions lie in his past, which will now decide Vishy's fate along with his own.

Direction and other technical aspects: Prabhu Deva has applied the 'Rowdy Rathore' formula by blending lookalike drama, action, comedy and Sonakshi Sinha to serve his freshly made 'Action Jackson', but sadly this trick hasn't worked this time.

Taking a dig on the screenplay, 'Action Jackson' is too clumsy with unnecessary humour and forced songs. The film won't have been that traumatic if the stretched scenes were chopped well by the editor. Cinematography by Vijay Arora finds a special mention here as he has highlighted the USP of this film by shooting the action sequences very well.

Performance: Ajay Devgn has disappointed with his act. His straight-faced humour in the character of Vishy failed to appeal, but he excels in the action sequences performed being AJ.

Going by the performance of ladies, Sonakshi Sinha is here to play the glitterati element repeating the same character frame all over again. Though, Yami Gautam has less screen presence, she looks radiant in every frame she is in. Former model Manasvi Mamgai has marked her stunning debut playing the seductress sister of mafia kingpin, only thing that has gone against her is the eerie background score which is played every time when she comes on screen.

Tamil actor Anandaraj has given a cold performance in his Hindi film debut. Though, he tried his best by getting his bald head inked with a weird tattoo, yet he failed in generating the villainy feel to his character of Don Xavier. Kunaal Roy Kapur is good in his role of Vishy's side-kick and has added relevant comic elements to the film.

Music: The entire album is composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Though there are just five songs in the film, yet they have failed because makers ring them in the irrelevant situations. Going by the composition, "Keeda" and "Gangster Baby" win the likes, while others go unnoticed.

Final Verdict: Go for 'Action Jackson', if you want to see some astonishing action otherwise the film has nothing appealing to deliver. The number of loop holes doesn't allow the film to fetch from more than 1.5 stars.
