AIYYAA is a Hindi feature film which released today i.e. on 12th October, 2012. It has been produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga under the banners of AKFPL Production and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Rani Mukerji and Prithviraj are in lead roles. It has been directed by Sachin Kundalkar. It falls in the genre of romance and comedy. But is it truly a love story? Does it make you laugh? Read the review ahead.

Story : Meenakshi (Rani Mukerji) is a Marathi girl who falls in love with Surya (Prithviraj) who is a Tamil artist. How she gets her love is the story of this film.

The film opens with scenes which portray the smelling (sniffing) power of Meenakshi. Her sniffing power is so strong that she recognizes anything and anyone just by smelling once (like dogs do).

She always dreams that she is dancing and singing songs of popular heroines of Bollywood.

She goes to find a job and finally she gets a job in art shop. One day Surya arrives there for some purpose and she falls in love with him. But so is not the case with the latter.

Thereafter, Meenakshi keeps dreaming about him and keeps following him.

Her parents invite some grooms family to see her (for her marriage) every time their attempt to get her like any groom fails.

One day she is even engaged with someone but at last moment she ditches every one and elopes from her house. Does she marry her dream boy?

Performance : Rani Mukerji's performance is good but of no use since its script and direction is very poor. Prithviraj is very good, especially in serious scenes but he has got very less footage.

Script : Its writing is very poor. Most of the scenes have no meaning. Most of the scenes are created to create humor but they are irritating instead of appearing to be comical. Most of the characters created are very irritating. Even Rani's character is irritating. Its screenplay seems to be stretched to great extent. Too many loopholes are present in the screenplay. It could have been crisp and tight by eliminating some repetitive scenes. Dialogues are just so and so.

Music : Amit Trivedi is its music director. The music is not up to the mark. Only one song, 'Dreamum Wakeuppam' sung by Sowmya Raoh is okay which you can listen to a few times. 'Sava Dollar' sung by Sunidhi Chauhan appears to be funny but you can't listen to it again and again. Rest portion of its music is dull.

Direction : Its direction is very weak. The director has not applied any brain while developing or presenting the character. He has given unnecessary footage to Rani Mukerji (which appears to be forced) and which causes irritation. The director has tried to make you laugh through cheap and gauche comedy which causes you irritation. It seems that the director had nothing else to show other than Rani's sniffing power. Her sniffing power has been exaggerated which is irritating. What the director has tried to pour on the screen is quite unconvincing. Overall the direction is not good.

Plus Points : Only to say that it is a love story

Minus Points : Weak Direction; Poor Script; Irritating Characters; Rani's Character

Conclusion : The director had got opportunity to show his skills but he has wasted Rani Mukerji and the money he got to make it. Neither it is a good love story nor is it a comedy film. Only people who like cheap comedy may like it. The director has completely wasted Prithviraj. It seems that the director's whole attention was on showing 'Kachra' (garbage) in the film due to which the whole film has turned into 'Kachra'.

Verdict : If you like cheap comedy & irritating characters, you can go for it otherwise skip it!
