Akaash Vani Review

Rating: 1.5/5

One Line Review: A totally failed attempt to depict a love story.

Positive Points: A sensitive topic taken up by the filmmaker.

Negative Points: Below average direction; poor character performances; bad screenplay; below average music; unnecessary dragging of most scenes; a few racist lines by the male lead.

Plot: Akaash (Kartik Tiwari) is a lively Chandigarh boy and Vani (Nushrat Bharucha) is a jolly Dehradun girl. Both of them meet at St Stephen's College, New Delhi and soon become close friends. They soon come close to each other and then eventually fall in love. Now Akaash goes abroad for higher studies and is still in contact with Vani.

However, a tragedy befalls Vani when her sister, who is to get married, runs away with her lover, thus leaving the family distraught and depressed. Now Vani witnesses her parent's grief regarding their daughter's elopement. Soon her father decides to get her married, which she readily agrees to, for the sake of her daughterly duties. Now Akaash feels betrayed.

On the other hand Vani experiences the trauma of being married to a complete stranger and consummating the marriage much against her will. Will Akaash be able to get Vani out of this dark pit? Will he accept her again? How will those incidents affect Vani? How will Vani's parents react? While the questions linger, the filmmaker makes a bad attempt to conclude the film.

Direction And Other Technical Aspects: The film's direction by Luv Ranjan is really very bad and totally fails the film. Despite of having a good base story, the film fails to impress the audiences due to its poor direction. Though Luv Ranjan had some success with 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama', he couldn't deliver the same here. The film's cinematography by Sudhir K Chaudhary fails in a similar way.

Performances: The performances are below average and fail to make a mark on the audience's mind. Their expressions are random even when it comes to depicting their mood in certain situations.

Final Verdict: The movie is a total waste of time and is certainly not worth a watch. Even if the base story is good, the direction and performances are so pathetic, that you give up watching the complete film.
