Bangistan Review

One line Review: A satirical comedy drama that narrates the story of two budding terrorists, fails terribly to live up to its genre.

Positive Points: Actor Riteish Deshmukh was the saviour! His acting made the film believable at a certain level amidst the unrealistic plot. Jacqueline Fernandez essayed her part fairly well. The intension of rendering a positive message through the film was right but it failed awfully at the execution part which brought about an undesired output.

Negative Points: Pulkit Samrat. The actor's performance was nothing close to good and his accent even got irritating after a certain point! A weak script backed by disappointing execution, forced humour, injection of some illogical and brainless sequences, slow paced narration and a bit too lengthy storyline.

Plot: The movie narrates the story of two kind hearted men from a fictitious place called Bangistan, who under the influence of their respective religious leaders decide to become terrorists in order to establish fear and superiority of their religion over the other. Hafeez (Riteish Deshmukh) is a Muslim by religion, call centre employee, frustrated with his job, suffers from serious identification crises. On the other hand there is Praveen Chaturvedi (Pulkit Samrat), Hindu by religion, a performer in the local Ram-Leela who is the devotee of a fake guruji who has established a political party named 'Maa Ka Dal'.

Both these men shed their jobs and commit to become suicide bombers to create awe amongst the people and to establish their religion. Unknowingly, both head towards Poland with one mission of creating mass destruction at the International Religious Peace Conference. In the foreign land, they meet a beautiful bartender Rosie (Jacqueline Fernandez) with whom they become friends with. The film further unfolds for some more mind-numbing sequences with flat dialogues, dragging the plot further down till it reaches the climax.

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Karan Anshuman has done an average job when it comes to direction. The plot is unconvincing and unrealistic that is accompanied by flat dialogues and silly sequences. The message that was intended did not come out fruitfully. The storyline and the execution are not impactful. The dialogues are just not up to the mark and the unnecessary insertion of some sequences drops the grip. The characters are underdeveloped and are unkempt.

Performances: Riteish Deshmukh is exceptional in his part but is underutilised in this film. He performed his role with full conviction and made the film watchable.

Pulkit Samrat is a complete letdown in the satirical drama while, Jacqueline Fernandez is like a sweet surprise. She looks gorgeous throughout the movie and does justice to her tiny little part. The supporting actors also performed averagely.

Music: All the songs in the film are passable except for the one named 'Meri Zidd'. It is also being played in the backdrop during the climax scene - 'Meri Zidd Hai Jeene Ki'. The two songs amongst the rest -'Saturday Night' and 'Ishq Karenge' are decent dance numbers.

Final Verdict: The movie has been rated two stars. One star amongst the two is for Riteish Deshmukh. There is nothing much to experience in the film as such. Content wise the movie is not worth it, but it's purely a personal choice to watch it. Happy Weekend!
