Rating: 3.5/5

One line Review: A crazy cruise journey with a dysfunctional Punjabi family that turns out be a liberating one for the trapped souls.

Positive Points: The story is very well narrated and the picturization was sure classy. The character-sketch of all the actors is very well established which helps one in getting more involved in the film. The accurate understanding and depiction of how people are trapped in their own little world is shown aptly in the film. The director has tried to show how suffocating can life problems be if not handled appropriately through this slice of life tale.

Negative Points: The slow pace of the film that is stretched a bit too long. The abrupt ending of the story which seemed fragmentary.

Plot: Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor) is a self made businessman married to Neelam (Shifaali Shah). Kamal's company AYKA is on its verge to bankruptcy and his twenty-five year old son Kabir (Ranveer Singh) is not qualified or capable enough to carry the responsibility of the company on his shoulders as his true interest lies in flying air planes. Their daughter Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra), a self made entrepreneur married to Manav, a snobbish and dominating husband and is always underestimated for being a female child.

Kamal plans a cruise to celebrate his 30th Wedding Anniversary and invites all his affluent colleagues and friends. Kamal and Neelam try to set their son with Noorie who is the daughter of a rich businessman Lait Sood citing business involvements. But Kabir, on the other hand, falls in love with Farah Ali (Anushka Sharma) who is a free spirited dancer on the cruise. Meanwhile, Ayesha is disturbed with her unpleasant marriage that turns worse when her ex-lover, Sunny (Farhan Akhtar) joins the cruise. What this pandemonium will lead to and where their lives will lead to is a further watch in the film.

Direction and other Technical Aspects: The script and the dialogues are a truly refreshing and add the required zinc to the story. The direction and the camera work are exceptional and the narrative is brilliant. The cruise takes you to some exotic locations which are a spectator's delight. The characters are very well established and are able to express every emotion impressively.

Performances: All the actors did a phenomenal job in the film which breath-life-into the story. Priyanka Chopra was exceptional as Ayesha, she just got into the skin of her character and delivered a marvellous performance.

Ranveer Singh as Kabir was truly a gem. He was a perfect fit in his role. Anil Kapoor as a self-centered businessman did a praiseworthy job while Shifaali Shah essayed her role incredibly well. The emotional turmoil in her head was very much evident and on could feel the pain.

Anushka Sharma did fair justice to her role. Though it was not a challenging one but it was simple and real. Farhan Akhtar has a cameo in the film which is sure an enchanting one. Pluto was another charming character in the film that stole all the attention. All the other supporting actors were decent when it comes to performances.

Music: Fun, pleasurable music and background score. Nothing overboard, it features a decent set of songs that are likable.

Final Verdict: 'Dil Dhadakne Do' is a complete family entertainer and a must watch for all the family mates. The film touches the subtle realities of a family and relationships. The classy appeal and the massy depiction of the family problems earn this film all the brownie points.
