Drishyam Review

Rating: 3/5

One line Review: Exceptional performance by the leads, strong plot and execution of the concept.

Positive Points: The suspense tale witnesses startling performances by Ajay Devgn and Tabu. Nishikant Kamat has managed to keep up the intensity of the drama intact throughout the film. The story ensures keeping the audiences hooked and involved in the plot. The smooth narration earns an extra point. The beauty of the locales is captured and showcased aptly.

Negative Points: There are a few dry moments in the film and its dragged length also is a minus point. A good hearted man deals, and in a way supports a deadly crime with no difficulty or mental conflict seemed unreal.

Plot: The movie revolves around a family man Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) who is a fourth class school dropout and runs a small Cable TV business. Vijay who is also a diehard movie buff lives with his wife (Shriya Saran) and two daughters in a small village in Goa. The happy life of Vijay and his family is completely shattered when a dreadful event occurs out of nowhere. His elder daughter (Ishita Dutta) inadvertently ends ups killing a guy named Sameer Deshmukh who dreads her for publicizing the video clip, which he shot while she was in the shower. Sameer is apparently the son of Goa's Inspector General Meera Deshmukh (Tabu).

The plot unfolds and narrates how a common man through his intelligence tries to protect his family from the complex situation. Will he be successful in his task or will he have to surrender before the no-nonsense cop Meera Deshmukh is the further watch.

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Director Nishikant Kamat has done a fairly decent task with the direction and execution of the storyline. The background score is pretty average and the music also is passable. The locales are beautifully captured in the film and the performances by the actors in pivotal roles are appreciable.

Performances: Ajay Devgn is the star of the film and shines throughout with his impeccable performance. Initially, it seemed difficult to watch him as a common man after having watched his blockbuster 'Singham' series, which has left a strong impression in the mind. But then after a few sequences, the story and his character become believable.

Tabu gleams as a real gem. She performs her role of a tough cop with full conviction and her presence makes the story even more likable.

Ishita Dutta essays the role of a teenager aptly and does complete justice to the character. The child artist is also brilliant in her part. Other supporting actors also performed fairly well.

Music: There are not many songs in the film due to its suspense genre which acts in the support of the film. The song 'Kya Pata' is a beautiful melody while 'Dum Ghuta Hai' is a passable one like the other two songs of the film 'Carbon copy' and 'Kab Kahan Se'.

Final Verdict: Watch the film if you enjoy stories with unpredictable twists and suspense thrillers. The film can be a onetime watch and a treat for Ajay Devgn fans.
