Rating: 3/5

One line Review: The film narrates the story of a die-hard fan of a superstar Aryan Khanna named Gaurav Chandna and his obsession for the celebrity to whom he worships as God.

Positive Points: The film offers a double treat to all the SRK fans as he portrays a double role and manages an exceptional performance in both. The thriller is gripping and the chase sequences are on point.

Negative Points: The second half of the film disappoints with a not so well crafted climax. The film showcases the scary and disgraceful side of an insanely obsessed fan which renders a gloomy and depressing impact.

Review Fan

Plot: The movie depicts a fresh concept which is about a fan of a film star. Gaurav Chandna (Shah Rukh Khan) is a young look alike of and a die-hard fan of superstar Aryan Khanna (Shah Rukh Khan). Gaurav’s whole life revolves around his idol Aryan. He considers himself as Junior Aryan Khanna and is an expert in imitating his God. Every year Gaurav Participates and wins local competitions by copying the superstar actor.

Gaurav decides to meet Aryan face to face and show him the trophy he has won by imitating him. As he reaches Mumbai, he witnesses a sea of fans, gathered in thousands just to have a glimpse of their favourite superstar. Gaurav feels neglected and gets disappointed being unable to meet his idol in person. In order to grab Aryan’s attention, Gaurav chooses a wrong path. Soon he lands up in Jail and in his first confrontation with his God Aryan Khanna, distorts his love which then takes an ugly turn. Will Gaurav harm his idol in revenge? Will Aryan be able to catch hold of Gaurav? Shapes the rest of the film.

Direction and other Technical Aspects: Director Maneesh Sharma has managed to execute the set up and base of the film well. Parts where Gaurav’s middle class background is shown and his mad love for the celebrity are captured appropriately. SRK’s interview and movie clips render an authentic built up for Aryan’s character. Although, the characterization of Gaurav seemed flawed as his unpredictable nature and mindless acts are not justifiable. The first half of the film keeps the audience interested, but there are several loop holes in the movie. The second half is rather disappointing. Shah Rukh Khan’s Performance is worth all the praise. Dialogues are good and some are impactful. A few lines such as ‘Fan ke lava bhi kuch banke dikhao’ stay with you for long. Special mention has to be made for the fight and the chase sequences. They are gripping and filmed beautifully.

Performances: Shah Rukh Khan’s flawless performance makes the movie worth watch. He is absolutely phenomenal as Gaurav and portrays the part super convincingly. His second part where he plays the role of a slightly arrogant movie actor with starry attitude is also apt.

Like in every film, Yogendra Tiku essays the role of a doting father. He is now a pro when it comes to essaying fatherly roles.

Deepika Amin essays the role of Gaurav’s mother. She pulls off her role of a loving yet responsible mom with conviction.

Sayani Gupta plays the character of Aryan’s manager and fits the bill perfectly.

Shriya Pilgaonkar, daughter of well known Marathi actors Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar has a cameo in the movie. Although, Shriya has very limited screen space, she manages to do a good job as Gaurav’s friend Neha.

Music: The popular number ‘Jabraa Fan’ has not been included in the movie. The background score is good.

Final Verdict: Watch the film to witness the King Khan’s outstanding performing skills in an as FAN.
