One-line Review: A love story of two commitment phobic people

Positive Points: Witty one-liners, Straight faced comedy of Saif Ali Khan, Feel good atmosphere, Breezy locations

Negative Points: Not really an out of the track take on romantic comedy

Plot: Los Angeles based novelist Yudi (Saif Ali Khan), is living on the fame of his five and a half years ago written book. He loves spending quality time with women, but runs away from commitment. Life is all about partying and sex for him, until misery strikes him, when a publication house gets him replaced by a sexy writer Aanchal Reddy (Ileana D'cruz). On his run for money, he comes in contact with a middle aged superstar Armaan (Govinda), who hires him to write a "Kickass Romedy" (unison of romantic and comedy) for his next Bollywood film in the Hollywood style.

Poor Yudi is going through the writer's block, where his competitor Aanchal emerges as his help and inspires him to get back to work. However, things turn upside down when he starts falling for her.Even she doesn't believe in the love affair funda. Now Yudi is left with bunch of questions like- Is it just a time being fling or the real love? If its love then, will he ever be able to convince commitment phobic Aanchal or not? Will he ever be able to find happy endings to his written stories? These queries get answered in the further part of the story.

Direction and other technical aspects: Directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. own reputation of helming worth-watching films like 'Shor In The City' and 'Go Goa Gone', but they weren't that successful in executing 'Happy Ending'. They didn't deliver any such "hatke" concept which they had claimed. Still, the film gains it's plus point because of some smart and cheeky one-liners. Also, the international locations of the film find the special mention as it added an extra feel to the scenes, for insistence Saif and Ileana's "Bollywoodia" road trip across the Pacific Bay Coast.

Performances: Saif Ali Khan once again plays his often liked image of a brat who refuses to grow up in Yudi's character. His alter ego Yogi also wins the likes, being his own philosophical guide. He has played his part very well, without over shadowing other characters. Ileana D'cruz is the breeze of the film. She is stylish and smart in her performance. Govinda's act of superstar Armaan announces that he has arrived back to captivate the hearts, once again. Kalki Koechlin as possessive girlfriend Vishakha is a fun to watch. Ranvir Shorey on his part has managed to steal the limelight in his supporting role being Yudi's party-partner Montu. Extended cameos of Kareena Kapoor and Preity Zinta fit perfectly into the film's plot.

Music: The music album of 'Happy Ending' has been entirely composed by Sachin-Jigar. It is the amalgamation of some beautifully pictured melodious tracks like "Haseena Tu Kameena Mein", "Jaise Mera Tu" and "Khamma Ghani", a parody take "Paaji Tussi Such A Pussy Cat" and the party song "G Phaad Ke".

Final Verdict: Right from its first look 'Happy Ending' has maintained the fresh feel of the film. During the promotions filmmakers addressed it as the "different" film with lot more masala than the romantic comedy genre based films, but in real the film failed to attain that stature. If you expect less, then you are likely to have more fun watching the film.
