KHATTA MEETHA is a satire film produced by Hari Om entertainment and Shri Asht Vinayak Cinevision Limited. This film has been directed by Priydarshan who has earlier directed some fun films like MALAMAAL WEEKLY, BHAGAM BHAG, DE DANA DAN etc. Some of his films were really entertaining whereas some of his films could be called fun film just for name sake. There wasn't any fun in the film.

Well! The film KHATTA MEETHA can be said to be neither a totally fun film nor a serious film. The director has tried to make a totally fun film but he failed at many places so the film can neither be placed in the category of comedy film nor in the category of serious film. However, Priyadarshan has tried to give you something different and new plot which many of you can like.

The story of the film is such

Sachin Tichkule is a son of a big family but he failed to do anything in his life. Finally he turned to be a contractor-(a road contractor) because he never got any job other than the job of road contractor.  His parents are Kulbhashan Kharbanda and Aruna Irani. Their two elder daughters live in the same house with their husbands. His big brother, his wife and younger unmarried sister Tiackaule Harish (Urvashi Sharma) also include these.  His both brother in laws and Big Brother are so successful because they know how to nexus with politicians and bribe the corrupt officers whereas Sachin Tichkule doesn't know theses tactics. So he remained a failure in the present age of corruption.

All of them send crores of rupees into their own pocket which the government sends to them for the development of nation and they pretend to be honest. They do not even refrain from degrading Sachin and thus Sachin feels humiliated and doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know how to survive in this corrupt age.

One of Sachin's brothers in law is an engineer, played by Manoj Joshi. Another is a contractor played by Milind Gunaji.

Sachin's father Mr. Tichkule, played by Kulbhashn Kharbanda, is an honest and retired judge.

The ancestors of Mr. Tichkule were very rich and they lived like kings. Even Mr. Tichkule led a nice life and presently he has spent all his pension money in getting his daughters married. At present he lives with dignity and respect.

In this film Sachin tries his best to become a successful road construction contractor, but most of the times he fails due to many reasons one of which is corruption. Since he doesn't have money to bribe the corrupt officers, he fails to fulfill his dream.

When you come to know about all these things you expect it to be a very funny and interesting film. But it isn't as interesting on screen as it appears to be on paper.

Once the movie starts and 10 minutes passes, the film seems totally scattered and the audience seem so cumbersome that they wander what they are watching! Is it Priyadarshan's film or some novice's film?

Sachin Tichkule is a general character in the film. He appears in his typical style carrying a bag, wearing black glasses, and holding an umbrella. This is his identity. However, Priydarshan has tried to give a comical look to his main character Sachin Tichkule, but looks misfit in comparison to other characters. This type of get-up was not needed. Sachin needed some sober get-up.

The film doesn't move fast and tests your patience. However it speeds up after the entry of the actress Trisha Krishnan in the role of Gehna. At this moment the audience comes to know that Sachin and Gehna were old friends and both studied in college together. The entry of the heroine is a big relief to all.

The story is revealed that both loved each other.  There was a time when Sachin was a very honest guy. Once Gehna was going on wrong path; leaving the path of honesty and truth and she doesn't support Sachin in his honesty mission. At this Sachin gets furious and raises his hand to slap her. This hurts Gehna a lot and she leaves him i.e. a break up takes place. Meanwhile Sachin, who followed the path of honesty, goes on bribing the corrupt officers.

But there is a big surprise and shock to Sachin because his ex lover is appointed as the new municipal commissioner.  When Gehna comes to know that Sachin had changed so much that now he was on the path of dishonesty, she is shocked and surprised to see his changed character and start disliking him, whereas Sachin goes on giving her clarifications that this was not true. Originally Sachin is honest but he has to follow the wrong path!

But the worst point of the film comes when out of vendetta Sachin traps Gehna in the false accusation of bribery. Gehna couldn't bear it and for the fear of defamation she tries to comit suicide. This incident revives the truth and honesty of Sachin within.

So you see that there is something very serious instead of fun and comedy.

Writing of the film is weak. Screenplay of the film is so weak that the audience can't link themselves to it. The scenes are weakly written and the film gets stuck at many places while moving ahead.

The director is a big name of the Bollywood and has worked with these actors many times. Yet he failed to use them according to their talent and caliber. There were so many scenes which could have been better.

The background music is missing in the beginning and it was mostly needed there. Even the cinematography is not up to the mark. However choreography is okay. Even Pritam's music is up to the mark but will not last for long.

There are some scenes in the film which may thrill the audience. Such as when Sanjay Rana teases Sachin's sister then the way in which Sachin handles the situation by entering into Rana's office is unique and will be liked by the audience. In that scene Sachin takes Sanjay in a room very lovingly and beats him too much. Then he warns him not to tell anybody. He tells him that even he would not tell anybody that he had beaten him. This scene will remind one scene of the film INDIAN in which Sunny Deol beats one politician in his own cabin and while bringing him out he pretends that nothing had happened. If you have seen that film you will not find anything new here. In fact you may utter that this scene is copied from the film INDIAN.

The writer and the director have conceived the character of Sachin very confusing which is minus point of the film. One on hand Sachin faces any situation for the comfort of his sister but on the other hand he seems helpless and can't help his sister even a bit. The worst part of the film again can be said when he seems to be helpless when his brother in laws and father get sister married to loafer Sanjay Rana. Hardly any audience would like it.

Akshay Kumar has performed very well and could have made you laugh if the script were hilarious. But the script is not so good. Hence alone Akshay Kumar is not going to entertain and make you laugh.

Asrani and Johny Lever could have done very hilarious comedy but they were not used properly hence were wasted.

The heroine Trisha is up to the mark.

There are many loopholes in editing too which will affect the film.

The film preaches you more than providing entertainment. Where the film needed simple dialogues there the characters start preaching which is boring instead of effective.
The movie is a satire which will be liked by a group of people who have faced such problems and who understand such comedy. However, this film could have been better by deleting unnecessary scenes.

The casts of this film are Akshay Kumar, Trisha Krishnan, Rajpal Yadav, Markand Deshpande, Neeraj Vora, Milind Gunaji, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Asrani, Aroona Irani, Manoj Joshi, Tinu Anand, Johny Lever etc.

The film KHATTA MEETHA doesn't seem that it is directed by one of the great director Priydarshan.

Though it is not full of fun, it is not bad either. So go for it once if you have time so that you can see the working style of road contractors.
