Nautanki Saala! Review

By Friday Release Team - Nov 30, -0001 05:53 AM

Rating: 3/5

One Line Review: The Movie Is Not Much Outright Hilarious And Lacks Comedy Quotient As Bombarded In Trailers,Making It More Of A Romantic Flick.

Positive Points: Good Direction, Unique Story Plot,Foot Tapping Music.

Negative Points: Half-Baked Storyline, Lack of Good Moments In Pre-Interval Part, The Film Raises Some Unanswerable Questions.

Plot: The movie starts with Ayushman Khurana in the first scene. Ram Parmar (Ayushman Khurana) is a writer and director of theatre play titled 'Raavan Leela', which has completed its 1500 shows in The Apollo theatre in Mumbai. RP is very helpful by nature and lends a helping hand to all the needy people. This nature of RP brings clashes between his longtime girlfriend Chitra (Gaelyn Mendonca) who is much possessive about him.

One night, Ram Parmar, (RP) the lead actor of 'Raavan Leela', finds Mandar Lele (Kunaal Roy Kapur) committing suicide. Mandar is a very lonely guy and depressed in life, owing to not being able to make a successful career as well as failure in his love life. He becomes so timid that he is not even able to talk clearly.

Being very caring by nature, RP brings Mandar to his home and attempts very hard to make him a normal and strong man. RP even offers a role of 'Lord Ram' in his play. But, Mandar lacks confidence of playing the role successfully, almost calling himself a 'Panavati'. RP provides strong emotional support to Mandar and also goes to meet Mandar's grandma in Pune. There he comes to know that Mandar is a high-school dropout and a self-hater.

RP decides to track down Mandar's girlfriend 'Nandini Patel' (Pooja Salvi), a florist. After huge efforts, RP finds her. Nandini loses interest in Mandar as he is nobody. RP tries to convince her about Mandar's true love for her. In all this lengthy drama, RP unknowingly falls in love with Nandini. When RP's girlfriend Chitra comes to know about it, she leaves him. From this point, RP develops a sense of guilt in him.

Will Mandar be able to find his lost love once again? Will RP be able to forget Nandini? Do watch the movie to see what happens next.

Direction And Other Technical Aspects: The low budget directorial venture by Rohan Sippy is watchable for a quirky love triangle story. The film is good other than a tedious first-half. The movie loses logic to certain points like RP offering him the role of 'Lord Ram' in his theatre play, as it's a mere foolishness to offer such a prime role to a person, who can't even speak flawlessly and is not confident enough. A sense of unnaturalness gets developed in the film.

Nevertheless, 'Nautanki Saala!' is having a strong and heart-touching climax taking the movie on a different mode. There are also lots of unexpected twists in the films. Eventually, the 'pros' weigh more than the 'cons' in the film, making it a wonderful film to watch.

Performances: The Two Male Leads, Ayushman Khurana and Kunaal Roy Kapur have done amazing acting job in the film fetching loads of applause. The improvement in Ayushman's acting in noticeable in the movie, who has debuted with 'Vicky Donor'. Kunal Kapoor is having a great potential and was last seen in 'Delhi Belly', in which he played a hapless fellow. It would have been better if the female characters would have got more opportunity to show their potential. All the supporting actors in the movie have performed fabulously on their part. The facial expressions of all the characters are also great to see. Abhishek Bachchan made an attention grabbing cameo in the movie.

Music: The Film contains melodious music by music director Mikey McCleary and various singers. The best tracks from the film are 'Mera Mann' and 'Saadi Gali'. The background music is also incredible along with the other harmonious songs like 'Dil Ki To Lag Gai', 'Tu Hi Tu', 'Sapna Mera Toota', 'Dramebaaz' and 'Lag Gai'.

Final Verdict: 'Nautanki Saala!' is an overall great film and can be enjoyed with your friends and family! The witty flick is a love story with lots of awesome twists that can keep the audience glued to their chairs.
