Policegiri Review

Rating: 2/5

One Line Review: The overused concept of 'Cop Vs Goon' without a trace of innovation.

Positive Points: Sanjay Dutt' s performance , some comic punches

Negative Points: Poor execution, direction, stretched screenplay, music, too many action sequences, climax

Plot: The movie revolves around a tough cop Deputy Commissioner Of Police Rudra Aditya Devraj (Sanjay Dutt) who has shifted to the crime capital Nagapuram due to job transfer. Rudra is a disciplined and rough who hates criminals and he applies some different strategies to get rid of the the local criminal who is responsible for crime and corruption in the city. Sehar(Prachi Desai) a simple girl gets attracted towards this rough and tough man and Rudra too starts liking the sweet bubbly Sehar. Rudra has a different style to get rid of the crime and criminals and some times he goes out of the way and law to deal with them.

After shifting to Nagapuram, he has to deal with the local goon, an underworld don named Nagori Subramaniam (Prakash Raj). Subramaniam has the political power in his hands and he is responsible for crimes in the city. Everybody is under the control of Nagori and he and his henchmen are a menace for poor common people in the city. Rudra strikes the city as a 'Robinhood' and starts terminating the illegal and villainous acts of Nagori. In return, Nagori too fights back for his survival as a powerful goon and creates difficulties for Rudra. Now Rudra wants to rule out the kingdom of this powerful don and beings the game of a cat and mouse with lots of action and drama.

Direction And Other Technical Aspects: The director K. S. Ravikumar has played safe by remaking the hit South film 'Saamy' starring Vikram. But the director failed to paint it in the Bollywood style. The film has lots of entertainment quotient and masala in it. But still it is not new and fresh. We have seen this 'Cop vs Goon' saga for thousands of times before. The action sequences are too loud and flashy. The charisma of the 'Robinhood' Rudra does not entertains the audience due to its delayed script and stretched story. The film is stuffed with romance, action, comedy, witty dialogues but still it fails to catch the praises as the concept is stale and used before for many times. Some action sequences are unreal and appear bizarre in some scenes. Excessive action sequences make the movie unbearable at some moments. The punch lines of Sanjay Dutt and Prakash Raj are witty but remain unmemorable unlike 'Dabangg' and 'Singham'. The film ends up abruptly and hence the climax appears unconvincing.

Performances: Sanjay Dutt delivers the tough cop Rudra very well. His performance as the knight in the shining armor is impressive and memorable. The film is worth to watch only for Sanju baba. Prachi Desai shines well in her limited role and gives a good performance. The bad man Prakash Raj is just an impersonation of his roles in many of his south flicks as a baddie. But this time, the talented actor has not much utilized by the director. His villain does not scare at all, but conversely he sometimes looks eccentrically funny. A talented and capable actor like him is totally wasted in this film. Other supporting actors do their part at par.

Music: The musicians Himesh Reshammiya and Anjjan-meet Bros have composed just an ordinary music for this film which does not catch attention at all. No song touches the heart of the audience and hence cannot be remembered once played. No number is worth a special mention. The background score is average as well.

Final Verdict: 'Policegiri' is worth to watch only for Sanjay Dutt's action packed performance. Otherwise nothing new to watch for!
