SHAGIRD is a Hindi movie that released on 13th May 2011.

Cast & Crew: The cast of the movie includes actors like Nana Patekar, Mohit Ahlawat, Zakir Husain, Anurag Kashyap and Rimi Sen. The film is directed and written by Tigmanshu Dhulia who makes a comeback after a long time (His last movie was Charas released way back in 2004). The movie is produced by Asif Sheikh.

Story : SHAGIRD is the movie of a corrupt but effective cop in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Hanumant Singh played by Nana Patekar. He absolutely loves old songs and hates the newer ones. He has his own ways of achieving his goals and in all of this he doesn't mind taking bribes from others and even sharing it with all the other officers/ crew. The movie also consists of a politician by the name of Rajmani Singh (Zakir Husain) who, as portrayed predictably in almost all Bollywood movies, is a greedy hypocrite. Hanumant and a local gangster Bunty Bhaiya (played by Anurag Kashyap) help him attain his motives. Hanumant just goes about on a killing spree, attacking all those who could even remotely affect Rajmani. Life for Hanumant seemed smooth until he has a new and honest cop, Mohit played by Mohit Ahlawat, joining his team. Rimi Sen plays a journalist who is Mohit's girlfriend and gets kidnapped by 'Lashkar-e-haq'.

Performance : This is not quite a role that you have never seen Nana Patekar play before. But, yes he does it well. Rimi Sen doesn't have much to do in the film. Mohit Ahlawat seems expressionless in the entire movie! Zakir plays his character as a corrupt politician to the core! Anurag on the other doesn't seem to fit the character well. He lacks the attitude of a gangster. But, Zakir and Anurag do it extremely well as team on screen.

Script : The dialogues are well written and do give an apt punch where it is needed. However, the screenplay of the movie isn't quite good. In spite of the all the twists and turn it holds it still is not capable of getting a grip on your attention.

DOP: The cinematography done by Yogesh Jani is excellent. The movie shows Delhi in a way you have never seen it before.

Editing : The editing of the movie is not done quite well by Pravin Angre. The movie seems jerky and you are not even able to relate incidents or the flow of the movie seems out of your understanding.

Music : The music has been directed by Abhishek Ray and has nothing noteworthy.

Direction : The movie has been directed well but not up to mark.

Minus Point: The movie hasn't seemed to have kept up with the times or may be if the movie was released a few years ago it would've even seemed right.

Conclusion : The movie has got loads of action scenes, encounters, shoot-outs etc. if you have seen 'AB TAK CHAPPAN' that's all that comes to your mind when you watch this movie. Overall the movie is not quite entertaining.

Verdict : Go for it if you like to see Nana Patekar style. Otherwise there is nothing new and nothing of entertainment in this film.
