SHAITAN is a Hindi film which released on 10th June, 2011 and which falls in the genre of a thriller. This film has been produced by Anurag Kashyap and Sunil Bohra under the banner of Tipping Point Films.

Script : Bejoy Nambiar, Megha Ramaswamy and Abhijit Deshpande.

Music : There are several musicians such as Prashant Pillai, Bhayanak Maut, Anupam Roy,Mikey Mclarry but Ranjit Barot and Amar Mohile need to be mentioned on the top of the list.

Story : Amy (Kalki Koechlin) is an NRI who, due to some reasons, shifts to dreamland of India-Mumbai. She somehow becomes friends of some metro guys who live life in different style. This is a gang of some people and they live in different way. This gang comprises of a drug-peddler Dash (Played by Shiv Pandit), KC (Gulshan Devaiya), model-cum-aspiring actress Tanya (Played by Kirti Kulhari) and Zubin (Neil Bhoopalam) who is the idler. The fifth member who joins this gang is Amy and thus this gang becomes a member of five people which reminds you the film PAANCH of Anuraag Kashyap. We will talk about this film later.

Somehow these members hit somebody on the road and eventually they also plan a fake kidnapping.

In the story a suspended cop Rajkummar Rao (Rajeev Khandelwal) is roped in who is handed over the case to investigate the matter. Story goes on taking turns and each one of the gang members start bribing the cop and eventually get involved in another crime. Matter becomes worse and they go on diving into one trouble after another.

Performance : All the actors have done their jobs well but Shiv Pandit is excellent in his role.

Script : The screenplay of the film is tight and keeps you hooked except at some places where the film becomes lose.

DOP: Cinematography by R. Madhi is excellent, especially in chase scenes and action scenes.

Music : Music is average.

Direction : This is the debut film of the director Bejoy Nambiar and he has done his job brilliantly. Since he himself is the writer of the film, he has done his part very well. Whenever a writer directs his/her film himself the result is usually good.

Conclusion : Anurag Kashyap had started his first film PAANCH as his debut film but due to some reasons the film didn't see the face of silver screens that means the film wasn't released. It seems that Anurag Kashyap either directly or indirectly passed the story line of his unreleased film to Bejoy Nambiar so that PAANCH could be released in the name of SHAITAN but gave the credit to Bejoy Nambiar. Also this film was backed up by viacom18 hence this time it did see the face of silver screens. Though Anuraag Kashyap will not accept the fact that this is his previous film PAANCH disguised as SHAITAN and will say that the director Bejoy Nambiar came up to him with fresh idea which he liked because it was to some extent similar to his unreleased film PAANCH, yet the fact could be something else.

Verdict : Well made thriller! The film is worth watching if you love watching thriller.
