STAND BY is a Hindi feature film which released on 26th August, 2011 and it has been produced by Prakash Choube and directed by Sanjay Surkar.

Story : This is the story of football game and the dirty politics involved in it. Rahul Narvekar (Adinath Kothare) and Shekhar Verma (Siddharth Kher) are two friends who also play football from Maharashtra team. Rahul comes from middle class family but he is very talented whereas his friend Shekhar's father is a rich industrialist. Sachin Khedkar plays the role of Rahul's father whereas Dalip Tahil plays the role of the rich father of Shekhar.

A golden moment arrives when Maharashtra wins the prestigious Santosh Trophy after a long time (more than 10 years).

But unfortunately, for Shekhar, he is not included in the team whereas Rahul is selected. This irritates and frustrates Shekhar's father J.P. Verma. Though his son is selected as a stand by, he is not happy with that. He puts his all strength to get his son included in the team. He uses all his political powers and unfair means to get his son included in the team. He even gets Rahul, the deserving player, replaced by his son Shekhar.

Eventually, by playing foul means Rahul is removed from the Indian team.

Even though Shekhar is his friend, he can't accept the bitter fact that Rahul had over taken him.

What happens later is what makes the rest of the film.

Performances : Adinath Kothare has done his part in well manner. Siddharth Kher too has performed well. Other artists such as Schin Khedkar, Dalip Tahil, Avtar Gill, Surendra Pal etc. have justified their roles and have performed as they have done in their earlier films.

Script : The plot of the film is good but its screenplay is weak and has many loopholes in it. Dialogues are average.

Lyrics : Songs written by Swanand Kirkire are okay.

Choreography : Remo D'Souza has choreographed the songs which are so and so and Remo has not showed his talent to the fullest.

Music : Music of the film is given by Adesh Shriwastav which is so and so.

Direction : Sanjay Surkar has won National Award four times for his other regional films and is a well known director of Marathi films but he couldn't show his talent in this film. This film lacks emotions and many other elements.

Plus Points : It exposes the corruption and dirty politics involved in the field of games too.

Conclusion : The story idea of the film is good but has not been executed in well manner. But the film may not appeal the masses.

Verdict : If you love watching sports film you can go for it. Otherwise wait for its satellite or DVD release.
