Rating: 2.5/5

We have seen many movies based on Cricket in the past, but most of them, disappointed us. Not because public didn't want to see films on games, but because the movies were not made interestingly. Everyone liked LAGAAN, because the story was told in a nice way. Audience love to watch movies based on games but the films should be presented in nice manner.

The movie WORLD CUPP 2011 appears to be a movies based on Cricket. And since India is a country where crores of Cricket fans would like to see film based on WORLD CUPP 2011 which is in real going to happen. But this film won't be able to attract masses.

Film producers would definitely get surprised on my above statement. They would wonder how this film could be a failure. After all they have done a lot of investment in making this film; Investment near about Rs.11 crores! But the producers should understand that huge investment is not the guarantee of successful film but definitely good story is!

Well! Before I tell you about its plus & minus points, let me tell you about its producer & director. This film is produced by S.A.Gem Pvt. Ltd and is directed by Ravi Kapoor. This film is Ravi Kapoor's first film in which he has also played the lead role. Well! Let me first talk about his direction. As a debutant director Ravi Kapoor must have made this film expecting in his mind its huge success because of huge fans of Cricket. But he could not take advantage of the real World Cupp. He failed to impress the audience as well as Cricket lovers.

Ravi Kapoor has tried to expose the unholy nexus between the underworld and the cricketers, but has failed to give a good film on the subject. He has also failed to satisfy the audience. It's not because of his bad direction but because of bad story. He got confused in naming the characters. He has named himself as Ravi Indulkar which sounds like Tendulkar. It seems to be spoof of Tendulkar, which is not. But it sends negative message to the Indians. No Indian would like Tendulkar's spoof to be used in this way. This is also one of the biggest drawbacks of the film. Also, the director has tried to pack in too many genres into one. You don't know you are watching some segment of Chak De India or Jannat or Ram Gopal Varma's underworld territory. The film touches just the tip of these genres and doesn't go deep into exposing anything really startling.

Ravi Kapoor has played Indian cricket team's captain as Ravi Indulkar. He is a very good player hence he gets lured by the bookie lord Shobhan's (Zakir Hussain) huge bribe during the World Cupp game against Pakistan in 2007.

As a Hero, Ravi should have turned down the offer but he along with his 4 team mates – Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder ends up throwing the match away resulting in India's loss. How could any Indian viewer & Cricket lover like that! So the film also had to end in loss.

Later on his misdeeds are exposed by a journalist. Eventually the Indian Cricket Board ousts them all for 4 years from cricket.

How can anyone love such fellow! Not even his girlfriend Soha (Manisha) who dumps him.

However Ravi and his banned friends get another chance from his coach (Suresh Oberoi). In final once again India faces his opposite country Pakistan. Once again the King of bookies Shobhan tries to fix the match but Ravi turns down his offer. Eventually Shobhan kidnaps Ravi's girlfriend Soha. When Ravi comes to know this, he informs the Home minister about it because Soha was not only his girlfriend but also physiotherapist of Indian cricket team.

The Home Minister appoints an encounter specialist (Ehsan Khan) to rescue Soha at the risk of his life. On the other end Ravi & his team struggles to win World Cupp 2011. No need to tell what is the result in the end. You can well imagine.

This film lacks romance. So many scenes in this film are predictable.

As an actor Ravi Kapoor has acting talent which would surely emerge in his forthcoming films. As a debuntant director, he is good & would surely do better if he just knows to pick up good stories. The director has pasteurized some scenes very efficiently & effectively but the contents of such scenes are not impressive. So Ravi won't get any reward for that.

Performance wise Manisha is average.

Zakir Hussain and Suresh Oberoi are good & impressive.

It would be interesting to see Former Indian cricketers Saba Karim and Nikhil Chopra doing an on screen job as commentators. They have done good job.

Music by Aadesh Srivastava is average. There is nothing worth which needs to be mentioned.

Of course, Cinematography is good.

Ravi Kapoor is himself a huge cricket lover. According to him, he is just crazy about cricket and Sachin Tendulkar. He can't tell you about the exhilarating feeling he had when he saw Sachin made a whooping 30,000 runs in his 20 years of cricket career. He has always been the Cricket Team Captain of his school and college and has played on National Level. He has been a good batsman too and used to make 100-150 runs very easily and it used to get very difficult for the opposite team to throw him off the game. He is just mad about cricket and therefore to prove his madness, he made his debut film on cricket.

Well! This film is made by a big Cricket Lover; On Cricket and for Cricket lover, yet it is a very disappointing film. However, Ravi Kapoor has tried to make this film with noble intention. He has tried to expose the truth of match fixing. His efforts should be appreciated and we should wish him good luck for his next film.

You can watch this film if you haven't watched earlier films on Cricket.
